Courses

We offer a variety of courses for students of all levels, in-person and online, including customized and 1 to 1 classes. Courses are all taught and designed by our team of top level speedcubers, to provide top level content all while closely following each student’s progression.

In person

In person courses are held weekly on Saturdays mornings, on location at the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce YMCA, 4335 Hampton Ave, Montreal, Quebec.

In person, students can best connect with each other and their teacher to be more engaged and learn as efficiently as possible. Developing bonds with other students in the class through sharing and activities, these are more than just classes but an introduction into the amazing Rubik’s Cube community.

We currently offer mixed sessions in which our teacher and teaching assistant guide students who learn according to their interests and at their own pace, based off material and individualized feedback from the teacher.

Students can register and join the course at any time.

Student Testimonials

“I enjoyed how inclusive the course was and how personal it felt instead of being part of the class in general. They were talking to us specifically, and I think that's one of the best parts about Cubing Life Academy. I like how most of the courses contain things that are used in a lot of your solves, and some, including inspection time is used in every solve."

Viet, Online Rubik's Cube Advanced CFOP with Tommy Cherry
“I enjoy learning from Benjamin Kyle. He is a patient and wonderful teacher. He taught me great techniques, such as to do slow solves; take time to predict the scramble before start solving a cube. He also taught me different algorithms to solve a cube faster.
I look forward to learning a lot more from Benjamin Kyle. I believe you will enjoy his class as much as I do.”
Max, in-person student with Benjamin Kyle
“Cubing Life Academy has helped me to improve considerably as a cuber. I enjoyed the flexibility of the course and its structure. In addition, the teacher communicates helpful, complex information that is easy to understand in a highly coherent manner [...] Thank you for creating such a great place for people to connect and improve with as cubers. I hope so many more people join, because this has been a truly extraordinary experience!”
Octavio, Online Rubik's Cube Advanced CFOP with Tommy Cherry
“This course was amazing! I think that having someone there on the call to help you makes it so much easier. I took the 7-simul course because i wanted to be fast at clock, and a few months before that i tried to watch a 7-simul tutorial and it did not work, but the class was so helpful!”
Sam, Online Clock 7-Simul with Tommy Cherry

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I choose a course?
We recommend you check the course summary on our courses page. If you are in Montreal and interested in our in person courses, then these might be best as they offer the optimal interactive experience together with our teacher and classmates. If not, also check out the detailed information about our online courses, which offer a large variety of topics and higher skill level courses. Make sure to read the descriptions carefully, check the time of the courses, how often they are held as well as the registration time. Once chosen, you can use the registration form to register or request additional information.

  1. My child is XXX years old. Are these courses appropriate for them?
Our courses are open to children of all ages. In person courses are suitable for children for children as young as 6 years old without needing additional adult supervision. Young children usually understand concepts very quickly, and being exposed to three dimensional logic puzzles from a young age is very beneficial to develop reasoning and problem solving skills, dexterity, three dimensional perception and more. For online courses, we do recommend an adult be present for children under the age of 9 years old to help keep them focused and guide them through the steps of the course.

  1. What happens if I can’t make it to a session of a course?
If you are unable to attend one course session, you must inform us by email 48 hrs in advance. In this case, you will receive Cubing Life Academy credit equivalent to the value of the course which you missed. This credit will be recorded and can be later used to purchase other courses.
If you fail to notify us by email 48 hours before the course, you will not be refunded or credited any amount.

  1. How do I register and pay for courses?
We currently accept registration and payments through our online store. Select your desired course, and complete the transaction online. Once the transaction is complete, we will first process your order within 1-2 days. Once processed, we will send you an email with additional course information.
We support these payment methods online:

  • Alipay and WeChat Pay
If these do not work, please contact us to transfer manually using one of the following methods:

All our prices are currently listed in Canadian Dollars (CAD). The exchange rate varies, but 1 CAD has recently been around 0.75 USD. If transferring money by credit card, currency will automatically be converted from your currency to CAD, but conversion fees may apply.

  1. I want to register for a course, but the store displays it as Out of Stock. Can I still register?
If a course is listed as Out of Stock in our store, this means that the currently listed course group is already full. We are most likely working on scheduling another group. If you would like to register and are free at another time, please contact us using the request for information form to tell us of your interest in the course and send us your availability. We will work with you to try and schedule a new group.

  1. I registered for a course, but the minimum number of students was not achieved at the time of registration closing. What happens now?
In order to ensure the continual running of our courses, there is a minimum number of students that must be registered for group courses before they can start. The exact number depends on the course. See the course details. If that number is not attained by the registration deadline, an email will be sent out to all of the participants who registered informing them of the two possible choices:
Option 1. Continue waiting for more students to register and achieve the required number of registrants. Please note that once the course does begin, there might be a change in schedule. If inconvenient, students can choose option 2.
Option 2. Cancel registration and obtain a full refund for your registration fee.

  1. What time are the courses in my timezone?
All course times are posted in EST (Eastern Standard Time) used in the Americas. This is the standard time for Montreal, Toronto, New York, Boston, Florida, Lima, etc. Please make sure that your timezone is compatible with the times of our courses before registering.
